Because they are elusive, many people will never see manta rays; however, just knowing that such a magnificent and gentle being exists in the world - and has the right to live just as we do - should make us pause to think about what we purchase, what we eat, how we dispose of our rubbish, who we vote for, and which organisations we support.

“My career aspiration is to become a marine biologist, as I find the study and protection of marine animals and their environment particularly exciting. In 2023, I had the wonderful opportunity to spend a day with Frankie, a marine biologist from The Manta Trust. Not only did I get to dive with these gentle ocean giants, but I also learned more about this fascinating species. As I was still a student at the time, I wondered how I could get involved in ocean conservation. That was when I applied for the Manta Trust Ocean Ambassador Programme and started organising fundraisers at my school’s Christmas market, including a bake sale that raised £400 for the Manta Trust.”

“As a group of four students, three studying marine biology and one studying conservation biology, taking on a dip every day this February in Plymouth has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding. Facing the cold sea each day has reminded us why we care so deeply about protecting marine ecosystems. Some days have been tougher than others but knowing we’re raising funds for the Rahveshi Programme and supporting vital manta ray research has kept us motivated. Reaching £500+ has exceeded our expectations, and we’re so grateful for the support. It’s been an unforgettable way to turn passion into action.”

“Incorporating fundraising for Manta Trust into my 4-month sailing journey has been one of the most rewarding parts of the trip. Reaching my $3,000 goal early was incredibly encouraging and showed me how many people care about protecting our oceans. Sharing my passion for manta rays and marine conservation while documenting life at sea made the experience even more meaningful. Days surrounded by nothing but waves gave me a deep appreciation for the ocean’s power and beauty. A highlight was swimming in Guadeloupe when three dolphins joined us for hours. Moments like that remind me why protecting marine life matters and motivate me to keep advocating for healthier oceans.”
